            Vampire O

This will be the 15th anniversary of this Halloween-themed event!
            location_on Manito Park, Spokane access_time 6:00 PM - 7:30 PM
Come alone, or gather a small group of like-minded adventurers. You’ll get a map of Manito Park showing the precise locations of 30 reflective control markers spread out all over the park. Markers are worth 20, 30, or 40 points depending mainly on how far they are from where we’ll start. Register at 6:00 PM and you’ll have till 6:30 to plan a route that maximizes the number of points you can score within the one hour time limit. Be careful though — someone among us is a vampire! If they get close to you with the magic flashlight you’ll lose points and temporarily become the vampire yourself! Anyone might be the vampire so keep your distance from other competitors or carry any of the magic talismans you come across along the way: the jug of holy water, the wooden stake, or the crucifix.

We’ll review the rules prior to the start. Bring a flashlight for everyone in your group (or better yet, a headlamp). Costumes are encouraged.

This event is Halloween-themed and takes place after dark, but it’s otherwise family-friendly.

              Motala at Finch Arboretum

              Three maps -– one course?!

Why three maps? Each participant will navigate three shortish loops around the arboretum, in a randomly assigned order. For example, Tracy might be assigned his loops in CBA order, and Rochelle could be given BAC order. They'll both navigate the same legs and the same distances, but be given different maps each time they get back to the start. The beauty of this format is that we have the fun of seeing more of our friends out on the course at the same time, but it's still hard to get hints about where to go by following someone. Registration starts at 11:00 with the goal of a mass start at 11:30.
